The Herefordshire Marches Federation of Academies (HMFA) is a charitable company and is accountable for the strategic direction of each of the Academies within the Multi Academy Trust (MAT). The Trust has 2 layers of governance as laid out in the Articles of Association – the Members of the Trust and the Board of Directors.
Each of the 4 Academies (Lord Scudamore, Sutton, Kings Caple and St Weonards) within the Trust has a Local Advisory Body (formerly Local Governing Body) which is a Committee of the Board of Directors, with delegated key function. They perform a crucial role in providing the Trust with the necessary tools to ensure that it can maintain the individual character of each of the Academies.
The HMFA MAT Scheme of Delegation (see pdf on right) defines the lines of responsibility and accountability within our Multi-Academy Trust. It is a systematic way of ensuring that Members, Directors and Local Advisory Boards are clear about their roles and responsibilities.
The governance structure is shown in the chart above.

St Weonards Academy is set within a thriving rural community and through close links with St Weonards Church, the local shop and the farming community the children are able to benefit from a very varied range of extra educational and personal development opportunities. The school prides itself on being a safe, friendly welcoming environment where the excellent staff are committed to providing a curriculum, which will ensure the children that attend the school achieve the best possible outcomes that stay with them in the future, giving them the skills to become responsible citizens and life- long learners.
Being part of the Herefordshire Marches Federation of Academies, St Weonards Academy has been able to provide so many extra opportunities for the children including a varied range of sporting, musical and exciting residential trips. As a Parent Governor who regularly pops into school, I am able to see the quality of education and care for all the students and allows me to see first hand the children ‘growing together, learning together’ (the motto chosen by the children). The children also chose the slogan – ‘Together Everyone Achieves More’. This has been recognised in the recent OFSTED report, which concluded that we are an Outstanding School.
We also pride ourselves on the good relationships with our parents and we continue to listen so that we can also grow together. The school parents also run a hardworking PTFA, who organise a variety of events throughout the year that enable the children to benefit from more equipment and educational trips. St Weonards Academy has a kitchen on site meaning that hot healthy meals are provided, which the children really enjoy. St Weonards Academy always strives to achieve more so please come along and see this happy, friendly, healthy school of which the Governors are really proud, after all “Together everyone achieves more”.
