Food & Drink

From September 2014 all children in reception, year 1 and year 2 in state-funded schools in England have been eligible for free school lunches.

St Weonards Academy fully supports this initiative, encouraging children to have their free school meal and providing an attractive and healthy range of foods. Research show that school lunches are nutritionally superior to most packed lunches and can lead to improved behaviour and attainment.

Many children choose to bring packed lunches to school. We regularly include newsletter items about the contents of these and we do not allow sweets, chocolate bars (although we do allow chocolate covered biscuits at present) or fizzy drinks.

Lunches are provided daily in the Hall where children are able to enjoy the meal they have chosen from the menu that can be found on ParentPay.

Water is provided with all meals. All hot meals are prepared on-site in our own professional kitchen. We currently provide cooked meals to other schools in HMFA.

We encourage children to eat with a knife and fork and develop their social skills as they talk and eat together.

If you do not wish to take up school meals then your child will need to bring in a packed lunch. They are able to eat this in the Hall along with the children having school meals.

Ordering & paying for lunches

All school dinners need to be ordered online using ParentPay. If you have an issue with your login, please contact the school office.

Hot lunches are supplied by HMFA Enterprises LTD T/A HMFA Catering £2.40 and cost per day. (Meal providers may vary for each school.)

Drinks

We encourage the children to drink water throughout the day. There is access to water in classrooms or from the water coolers in the corridors so there is no need to send in a water bottle unless the weather is warm and drinks need to be taken outside. Please do not put water bottles in reading bags as they can often leak.

Milk is also provided for free for Reception pupils up until your child is five.

Lunches

Lunches are provided daily in the Hall where children are able to enjoy the meal they have chosen from the menu that is sent home. Children can choose from a selection of pudding of the day, fruit and yoghurts. Water is provided with all meals. All hot meals are prepared on-site in our own professional kitchen.
